About My Marathon Challange
On April 1st I intend to take a step into the unknown by becoming the first foreigner ( to my knowledge ) to run around Taiwan. The challenge I have set myself is to run a Marathon a day for 30 consecutive days. I intend to raise money for two charities: Cancer Research UK and The Taiwan Foundation for Rare Disorders.
The inspiration for this challenge came from reading about Terry Fox and his “Marathon of Hope” across Canada raising money for Cancer Research. Each of us are susceptible to the “Genetic lottery” which governs our very being and the two charities I have chosen reflect the need to continue and advance current research in the field of Rare Disorders and the fight against Cancer.
I have run 13 Marathons on 3 different continents thus far with the first being the London Marathon in 2002. I intend to push my body to its limits and beyond to complete this challenge. My journey will start at the most Northern point of Taiwan and it will take in the most Eastern, Southern and Western points coupled with a number of City Marathons along the route. I will be accompanied on my journey by a fellow Shane teacher and good friend Alice Davis who on a scooter will standardise the route by ensuring I run 42KM a day.
I ask each of you to dig deep into your pockets and support my Marathon Challenge by donating whatever money you can to either or both Charities. Even the smallest amount will make a huge difference.

I welcome anyone who wishes to run a Marathon with me or even just coming down on a scooter to support me during my challenge. It is going to be a great adventure and I can’t wait to get started!

About Neil
Already having one of the most difficult to spell names on the planet, it is Neil’s dream to run around the planet. His first marathon was the London Marathon in 2002 and since then Neil has run 13 marathons to date, including Chicago, Amsterdam, Dublin, Berlin and Edinburgh and, most recently, the Taipei Marathon in December 2007. Neil is passionate about many sports. As a footballer, tennis player, and athlete he excels. He’s not a phenomenal swimmer but no one can be great at everything. Some other fascinating facts about Neil are that he’s very tall, he has his own language, he’s the life and soul of the party and, interestingly, a pea could kill him.
About Taiwan
Taiwan is slightly larger than the states of Maryland and Delaware combined. Leaf-shaped Taiwan island extends 394 km (245 mi) NNE–SSW and 144 km (89 mi) ESE–WNW; it has a coastline of 1,566 km

Hi Neil,
Reading all about you journey and I know how hard it is going to be, would like to have run some of it with you and chat on the way. Hope the body stays strong as I know the mind will always be.
